GastroMend® is a premium nutritional supplement developed specifically for managing gastric ulcers in horses i.e., Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome. and is a new approach to managing gastric ulcers. GastroMend® is designed to promote digestive health in horses at risk of developing gastric ulcers, allowing normal digestive functions without affecting stomach acid production. In addition, GastroMend® provides the most cost-effective and natural approach to gastric ulcer management in the horse.

Overview of Equine Gastric Ulcers

Equine gastric ulcer syndrome is one of the most costly diseases in all equine specialties. Not only do gastric ulcers cause pain and discomfort, but horses with gastric ulcers also tend to eat less and perform poorly. Often, gastric ulcers in the horse are subclinical and go unnoticed for an extended period. Horses being treated with gastric ulcer medication commonly still develop gastric ulcers and go undiagnosed. In these cases, horses have poor appetites, poor skin coats, exhibit poor performance, and have severe gastric ulcers before they are noticed.

Gastric ulcers are caused by several factors, primarily stress and overuse of NSAIDs. The stresses of training, racing, showing, and competition are the primary stressors for athletic and show horses. Long-term use and or high doses of NSAIDs can also cause gastric ulcers. A horse that fits into any of these categories is at risk of developing gastric ulcers.

Specifically, all of these factors ultimately decrease the mucus layer produced in the stomach that protects the mucosa from gastric acid. Acid production in the stomach is necessary for proper digestion and digestive health but, without the normal mucus barrier, the acid damages the epithelial lining and eventually causes gastric ulcers.

Conventional treatments for gastric ulcers in the horse are aimed at reducing gastric acid production or forming an artificial protective barrier that adheres to the ulcer. These treatments can be effective at reducing the pain associated with gastric ulcers but do not necessarily promote healing. The primary goal of GastroMend® is to promote healing of the gastric ulcers and improve the mucus layer so the horse’s stomach can function normally and pain-free.

How Does GastroMend® Help Equine Gastric Ulcer Management?

GastroMend® is formulated with high-quality natural ingredients that have been proven to promote healing and prevent gastric ulcers. Specifically, naturally derived pentacyclic triterpenoids promote gastric ulcer healing by increasing collagen hand fibronectin production. Collagen and fibronectin are critical components how the basement membrane and of the healing process. The natural components of GastroMend® have also been shown to improve the quality of the mucous layer in the stomach and prevent gastric ulcers in challenge studies.
